Description

Crete Tradition Gruyère is a type of Swiss-style cheese that originates from the island of Crete, Greece. It is a traditional, artisanal cheese made from cow’s milk, and it’s part of the Gruyère family, which originated in Switzerland.

The cheese has a golden-yellow color with a smooth, creamy texture and a firm consistency. The flavor profile is rich and complex, with notes of nutmeg, caramel, and a slightly sweet, creamy taste. The flavor is also slightly tangy and slightly sweet, similar to a young Gruyère. The cheese is semi-soft and crumbly, with a lovely snap when broken.

It is made from the milk of local Crete cows that graze on the island’s lush pastures. The cheese is produced in small batches by local cheesemakers using traditional methods, which involve heating the milk, adding rennet, and aging the curds in controlled conditions.

The cheese is aged for at least 60 days, which allows it to develop its characteristic flavor and texture. Some wheels may be aged for up to 12 months or more for an even richer flavor.

Crete Tradition Gruyère is a versatile cheese that can be enjoyed on its own as a table cheese, grated over salads, pasta dishes, or soups, or melted in sandwiches and sauces.
