Description

Lasagna is a type of pasta dish that originated in Italy. It’s made with wide flat noodles called lasagna noodles or sheets, which are layered with a variety of ingredients. The traditional ingredients include ground beef or sausage, tomato sauce, ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese, and parmesan cheese.

Components of a Classic Lasagna:

  • Lasagna noodles: Wide flat noodles made from wheat flour and water.
  • Meat sauce: A rich and flavorful sauce made with ground beef or sausage, tomato puree, onions, garlic, and herbs.
  • Ricotta cheese: A soft and creamy cheese often mixed with eggs and seasonings.
  • Mozzarella cheese: A melted and stretchy cheese that adds creaminess to the dish.
  • Parmesan cheese: A sharp and salty cheese that adds depth and umami flavor.
  • Fresh basil: Chopped fresh basil leaves add a bright and herbaceous flavor.

How to Make Lasagna:

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions.
  • In a large skillet, cook the ground beef or sausage until browned, then add tomato sauce and simmer.
  • In a separate bowl, combine ricotta cheese, eggs, salt, and pepper.
  • To assemble the lasagna, spread a layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish. Arrange 4 lasagna noodles on top of the sauce. Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by half of the mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layers. Top with the remaining mozzarella cheese and parmesan cheese.
  • Bake for 30-40 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Fun Facts:
